Since 2006 we
have attended over 100 Schools, Universities and Colleges, with many
different requirements. We aim to provide a climbing experience with
minimum effort and expense to the school and the sports co-ordinator.
There are a variety of ways the climbing
wall can be used in a school environment:
Climbing: The climbing wall has four
sides with varying difficult. It has an automatic belay system so that once
attached to the safety line, each pupil is 100% safe without relying on
others to *belay. This allows high volumes of people to climb many times.
Without the focus so much on the belayer we are able to turn our attention
to the climbing techniques. Rope work:
We can set up a 'top rope' system to belay from along side the auto belay.
With the top rope system set up we can create the illusion that the
belaying pupil is fully responsible for the safety of their class mate,
whilst the activity remains 100% safe. Eight people or more can have
'hands on' involvement at any one time throughout the event. Rope work is
also used where participants may struggle to get to the top, we use the
'top rope' set up and all Special Education schools.
Safety and future climbing: Information is
provided to the participants on how to get involved with climbing and how
to reduce risk on real crag. As our instructors are experienced outdoor
pursuits instructors we have a strong interest in the activity which help
to promote this great adventure sport.
Fun and games: There are a number of games and challenges that we
incorporate into our teaching sessions, to increase the levels of interest
which in turn increases participation.
Group size: The ideal group size is 12 - 16 per hour, this can
obviously be adjusted to suit the requirements of the class teacher.
As many as 30 pupils can use the climbing wall in one hour, but a
higher standard of teaching is obtainable with a smaller group.
Costs: We
understand the financial constraints of the school budget but we also feel
that climbing should have more awareness and schools are an ideal location
for this activity. Email;

*Belaying is the term used to describe the control
of the rope that the climber is attached to. |
